David Foster Foundation: Miracle Gala & Concert
Shaw Centre – Calgary, AB
From the moment guests arrived at the WestJet Hangar for the 2014 David Foster Foundation Miracle Gala & Concert, the CEO of the Foundation wanted them to feel like they were attending a VIP gala event, and experience an evening to remember. With the ultimate goal being to raise funds for the Foundation, our client expected flawless delivery in all key aspects in order to help them achieve success.
FMAV was chosen as a key event partner and tasked with transforming the hangar. To achieve this, we created a venue within the venue. Two amazing, separate function spaces for 800 guests were built; cocktail reception and a beautiful gala ballroom, with two stages. A 30’ high wall of rigged, velour drapery along all sides of the hangar, and creative lighting helped give us the transformed space the first class look our client desired. FMAV was also responsible for all of the audio, video, staging, temporary power, and rigging solutions to support the extensive gala dinner program and exacting concert production requirements. We also acted as Production Manager and Technical Director for the event, ensuring that all aspects were coordinated and executed flawlessly, which contributed to the overall success of the event, and helped the Foundation raise the most funds in their 27 year history!
Major challenges were encountered included an unconventional venue, demanding production schedule, extensive safety considerations, and limited rigging/power infrastructure. All were overcome through meticulous pre-planning, great teamwork, and professional production management. In the end, it truly was an “extreme makeover” – hangar style!
